Description

About the Role

In the high-stakes environments where our systems operate, safety and reliability are non-negotiable. As our Staff Safety Engineer, you’ll be the expert voice ensuring our autonomous ground platforms are safe, dependable, and maintainable from the first design sketch to final deployment in the field.

You will be a central guide for our hardware, software, and systems teams, embedding resilience into every layer of our technology. Your work is critical to our mission: delivering autonomous systems that our partners can trust without question when it matters most.

What You'll Build

  • A comprehensive safety and reliability function for our core system development programs, setting the standard for excellence
  • Rigorous safety analyses, including FMEA/FMECA and fault tree analysis (FTA), that provide clear, actionable insights to our engineering teams
  • Traceable safety and reliability requirements throughout the entire system architecture, ensuring integrity from concept to delivery
  • Structured assessments that actively shape system design and prevent issues before they arise
  • Failure mode identification and mitigation strategies that reduce operational risk across complex, safety-critical systems
  • Data-driven mitigation strategies that reduce operational risk and continuously improve system performance in the field
  • Robust maintenance concepts that enhance the readiness and operational life of our deployed platforms
  • Root cause investigations that not only solve problems but also strengthen the long-term integrity of our systems
  • A culture of safety-first thinking by mentoring engineers and advancing best practices across the organization

What You Bring

  • A strong background in Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline
  • 8+ years significant hands-on experience in safety and reliability engineering for complex products
  • Deep, applied expertise in FMEA, FTA, and other risk analysis methodologies
  • A proven track record working with mission-critical systems where failure is not an option
  • Practical knowledge of key safety standards (like ISO 13849, MIL-STD-882E, or IEC 61508) and how to apply them effectively
  • The ability to pair strong analytical thinking with a practical, hands-on approach to problem-solving
  • A highly collaborative spirit that unites different engineering disciplines toward a common safety goal
  • Excellent communication skills, making complex safety concepts clear to technical and non-technical colleagues alike

Please note: You do not need to meet every single requirement to apply. We welcome motivated candidates who are eager to grow into the role and develop their expertise further.
