DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION
The Coordinator, STEM Enrichment and Access plays a hands-on role in supporting BEAM’s mission to help students navigate pivotal academic and enrichment milestones. Working closely with the Manager, the Coordinator ensures smooth execution of day-to-day program operations, manages outreach and follow-up with students and families, and maintains accurate program data.
Retaining students who have completed BEAM’s summer programs while also recruiting new high school students in 9th grade will be a critical part of the team’s work. In your family and student recruitment efforts you are expected to inspire students to engage in BEAM’s STEM enrichment programs, explore BEAM’s STEM career access experiences and maintain high engagement levels in a supportive community.
This role is ideal for someone detail-oriented and organized, who enjoys building systems, ensuring follow-through, and engaging directly with students and families. The Coordinator helps deliver high-quality math enrichment and STEM exploration programs that prepare students for rigorous academic and career opportunities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
LA Team Responsibilities (10%)
- Participate in and contribute to bi-weekly/weekly LA team meetings led by the local Director to coordinate and assign support tasks across summer and year-round programs
- Regularly meet with LA STEM Enrichment and Access team to coordinate projects and support one another on key tasks
- Communicate LA team wide updates on the progress of your team’s work and key wins and milestones
Central Program Curriculum and Design Collaboration (25%)
- Support the design and/or review of 8th Grade + H.S. STEM enrichment curriculum and STEM career exploration courses offered to BEAM students
- Support the development of 8th Grade + H.S program management guides, policies and training resources
- Help implement central guidelines and tools for monitoring program quality and evaluating program outcomes
Local Program Management (50%)
Student and Family Engagement
- Support BEAM’s relationships with a portfolio of eligible partner schools to achieve our student enrollment targets.
- Support the coordination of in-school and after-school events, workshops, and initiatives designed to directly recruit and retain students and engage families in our enrichment programs.
- Support the coordination of the student admissions process with the goal of enrolling low-income, underserved students with a high potential of thriving in a STEM career.
- Create weekly newsletters to students and families, including news about BEAM’s programs, interesting STEM enrichment opportunities and/or high school relevant news to support student engagement and academic success.
- Conduct regular outreach to families and students to ensure program enrollment and strong retention.
- Coordinate follow-up with Gateway students entering 9th grade to support their transition into year-round programs.
- Represent BEAM at in-school, after-school, and weekend events to recruit and engage students.
- Provide logistical and communication support for admissions and enrollment processes.
- Program Support and Logistics
- Collaborate with program leaders to create and teach one-off and/or a short series of student workshops relevant to high school academic success and/or STEM career exploration.
- Act as teacher assistant during Saturday and/or after-school math and STEM enrichment classes with the purpose of building relationships with students.
- Coordinate logistics for Saturday and after-school enrichment programs, including classroom set-up, materials preparation, food, and transportation needs.
- Support implementation of specialized workshops, field trips, and events by handling scheduling, space reservations, permissions, and communication with participants.
- Serve as on-site support at enrichment classes and events, ensuring smooth operations and positive student experiences.
- Observe Saturday and/or after-school math enrichment and STEM exploration classes and coach instructors towards a student-centered, inquiry-based instructional approach
- Facilitate BEAM’s packaged STEM exploration courses as needed
- Help chaperone STEM enrichment workshops, career events, or college admissions field trips during the school year as needed
- Provide 1:1 or small group H.S. external summer STEM enrichment advising as needed
8th Grade H.S. Admissions Support
- Alongside the Manager, STEM Enrichment and Access, implement specialized local workshops, field trips and experiences focused on college admissions and STEM career exploration that supplement the core enrichment curriculum
- Provide 1:1 or small group H.S. external summer STEM enrichment advising as needed
- Provide students and families with opportunities for small group advising on strong-fit high schools they should attend
- Develop advising materials, workshops and guidelines for selecting a strong fit high school for 8th graders
- Work with team to establish requirements for 1:1 advising and application reviews; provide 1:1 advising as needed
- Data and Systems
- Track student participation, enrollment, and outcomes in Salesforce and other BEAM systems.
- Collect and enter survey responses, attendance records, and other program data.
- Help generate reports to support program evaluation and decision-making.
LA Summer Programs Support (15%)
- Support LA summer programs team with recruiting and interviewing seasonal summer staff for all LA summer program sites
- Support LA summer programs team with logistics support, family engagement events, and summer site quality reviews

Requirements
- Prior experience in youth programming, education, community engagement, or program operations (internships and volunteer work count)
- Experience working with middle or high school students, ideally in STEM or enrichment programs
- Comfort with family and student outreach, including phone calls, emails, and in-person engagement
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to coordinate logistics and follow up on details
- Professional experience (or demonstrated commitment) working with low-income or historically marginalized communities
- Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends for student programming

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education, STEM, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Familiarity with Salesforce or similar CRM/database systems
- Experience with program admissions, recruitment, or enrollment processes
- Experience creating program communications (emails, flyers, or outreach materials)
- Bilingual in Spanish or another language commonly spoken in LA
- Comfortable with spreadsheets and data management tools

SALARY, BENEFITS, AND OTHER DETAILS
The salary range for this position is $55,000- $64,900. This is a good faith anticipated range of the job, but the actual pay will be based on any applicant’s skill and experience.
