About this data
- How much do AI gigs pay?
- It depends on the pay unit. Hourly AI gigs (Mercor, Braintrust) and per-task, fixed-project, and annual gigs are each shown separately, because they aren't comparable. Every figure is the median of disclosed rates on currently active gig listings, in a single currency.
- Where does this data come from?
- Only disclosed pay on live AI gig and bounty listings indexed by Kairos (Mercor, Braintrust, Kaggle). It is not a self-reported survey or a broader market estimate - it reflects what these platforms are actually advertising right now.
- Why are hourly rates and bounty prizes shown separately?
- A bounty prize is a one-off award for winning a competition, not an hourly or per-task rate. Blending them would be misleading, so prize pots have their own section and are never mixed into the rate tables.
- Why is a category or pay unit missing?
- Any cut with fewer than 8 disclosed gigs is hidden, so a thin sample never quotes a rate. As more gigs post their pay, more cuts appear.
