Description

Company Overview

Function is how you manage your lifelong health. The mission is to empower 8 billion people to live 100 healthy years.
We've created a new category in health. Named a TIME100 Most Influential Company. Raised $350M from investors ranging from a16z to Kevin Hart. We started with lab testing three years ago and are quickly building a full-stack health system.

Function now reaches over a million people owning their health in a new way — far beyond biohackers and health nuts. It's popular coast to coast, across a wide range of incomes. Function is $1 a day, for what could otherwise cost thousands and be accessible only to a select few.

We're growing our team very selectively. World-class talent only. You must be driven by the mission to materially impact how people live globally.

The right person has a bias toward action and a growth mindset. There's no time to waste, and hard work is required. The reward is career-defining purpose and upside.

Role

Social media is the fabric of culture. And it's the frontier of our GTM at Function. It's about attention, but also trust: make people feel something, and know they must have Function for themselves and their loved ones.

This role will own social channels and community end-to-end, and will partner closely with the leader who owns creator and influencer. This is one of the most visible and consequential roles at Function. It directly shapes how the world sees us, who advocates for us, and how we grow. You'll lead a small team spanning social, content, and community, and work in close collaboration with creative, comms, and the creator and influencer team.

You can take a single story and tell it in countless compelling ways. You read culture the way a strategist does and execute the way an operator does. You understand not just what's trending but why, and you use that behavioral intelligence to make decisions that are defensible and ahead of the curve. You know when to show up in a cultural moment and when to create one. You make the creator and influencer team's work stronger, and you know the difference between influence and noise.

If you've scaled a social presence, built AI into how the work gets done, and can point to the cultural reads behind it, keep reading.

What You'll Own

Social Strategy and Execution at Scale

  • Full ownership of multi-channel social growth.
  • Drive step-changes in reach, engagement, and cultural relevance. Incremental is not the goal.
  • Build and execute an always-on, performance-driven social strategy that keeps the brand sacred while enabling experimentation.
  • Translate company priorities into platform-native content and formats across Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, Reddit, YouTube, Threads, and Facebook.
  • Bring a maker mentality. Partner with creative and other teams to make the work, and be comfortable concepting, creating, and shipping it yourself.
  • Personally model best-in-class real-time engagement: on-brand, fast, human, and culturally aware. Walk the walk.
  • Set the creative bar with exceptional taste and cultural judgment. Be original in formats and moments, not reactive to what's already saturated.

AI-Native Social & Community

  • Design and deploy AI agents and workflows that manage community engagement at scale: listening, triage, response, and follow-through.
  • Use AI to multiply what a small team can make: ideation, production, versioning, trend detection, creator discovery, and reporting.
  • Decide what agents handle and what a person must handle, so brand voice and trust hold as volume grows.
  • Keep testing new tools and ways of working. Keep what earns its place and drop what doesn't.

Creator & Influencer Partnership

  • Partner with the leader of creator and influencer so social and creator run as one cultural strategy, with shared calendars, briefs, and moments.
  • Turn creator and talent content into platform-native social, and give that team the cultural reads and formats that help their work land.
  • Bring a cultural lens to partnership fit: does this person reflect where health culture is heading, or where it's been?
  • Work with growth and performance teams so social drives measurable acquisition outcomes, not just reach.

Cultural Intelligence & Trend Leadership

  • Obsess over where culture is heading in 12 to 24 months.
  • Decode the behavioral "why" behind audience actions: what they engage with, who they trust, how health fits into their identity, and where Function has permission to show up.
  • Identify cultural moments worth owning, define the moments Function should build, and set the criteria for knowing when they've landed.
  • Apply cultural intelligence to platform strategy, content direction, and input on ambassador selection — removing subjectivity from creative feedback and grounding decisions in real signal.
  • Map the cultural tensions Function navigates as it scales (access vs. luxury, data empowerment vs. health-tech skepticism) and help the brand move through them with intention.

Team Leadership

  • Lead and develop a small team across social, content, and community.
  • Set the direction, operating model, and performance standards for the team.
  • Build an AI-native operating model that lets a small team produce the output of a much larger one.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Collaborate closely and daily with creative, comms, and the creator and influencer team. Share ideas early and share credit.
  • Communicate clearly on performance, cultural rationale, and strategic direction.

Performance & Accountability

  • Define metrics that matter across social and community. Be accountable.
  • Tie cultural and social work to business outcomes.
  • Move fast without being sloppy. Own your calls and your numbers.

The Bar

You likely have

  • Up to about 10 years of experience owning social strategy, content, and community. Recency matters more than tenure: extensive, recent AI-native experience can balance fewer years.
  • Hands-on AI-native experience in social. You've activated AI across the work, including agents that manage community engagement, and can show the results.
  • Recent, compelling social activations you can walk us through: the idea, how you made it, and what it did.
  • Experience at culture brands, including creating something out of nothing in the earliest days.
  • A history of highly collaborative work with creative, comms, talent, and creator teams.
  • A proven track record of meaningful channel growth that drove real business outcomes.
  • Experience leading and developing a small team.
  • Deep operating experience in real time: cultural moments, news cycles, launches, live engagement.
  • A genuine cultural intelligence practice — you can explain not just what performed, but why, and what it signals about where the audience is heading.
  • Strong analytical instincts and fluency tying social performance to growth metrics.

You are

  • A maker at heart. You partner well with teams, and you're comfortable making it happen yourself.
  • Passionate about helping 8 billion people live 100 healthy years.
  • Biased toward action, now.
  • Someone with great taste and sound judgment.
  • Highly collaborative. People in creative, comms, and creator want to work with you again.
  • Fast, decisive, and comfortable being accountable in public.
  • Detail-obsessed, but not precious.
  • Equally comfortable in strategy decks and in the comments section.
  • Opinionated about culture and curious about what's driving it.
  • A builder of teams, systems, and trust.

To be a strong fit, you embody our Core Values:

  • Ruthless Prioritization:
    • We don’t let perfect get in the way of progress.
    • We move quickly to drive value, not perfection.
    • We prioritize what drives impact.

    • We act with urgency and precision.
    • We anticipate, initiate, and follow through.
    • We meet challenges with grit and pragmatism.
    • We embrace new tech to deliver better outcomes.
  • Mission Over Ego:
    • We are ruthlessly aligned to our mission—and leave ego at the door.
    • We disagree and commit.
    • We don't tolerate politics or withholding information.
    • We operate with honesty, transparency, and respect.
  • Sustained Integrity in Every Detail:
    • We earn trust by obsessing over accuracy, quality, and clarity in everything we do
    • We prioritize clinical precision—data must be right.
    • We sweat the details because outcomes depend on them.
