ABOUT THE ROLE:
You will oversee crews building the infrastructure for SpaceXAI’s on-site power generation plant in the Memphis region — including gas turbine packages and auxiliaries, fuel gas piping, process and BOP piping, pumps, heat exchangers, compressed/instrument air, water and cooling systems, plant HVAC, and fire protection. If you thrive on hands-on leadership, complex industrial mechanical construction, and delivering generation that stays online, join us to help build the power plant that supports SpaceXAI’s high-density AI supercomputing facilities.
This is a full-time, onsite role based in Southaven, MS with relocation required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee and coordinate mechanical installations including gas turbine and generator auxiliaries, fuel gas piping, process and BOP piping, pumps, heat exchangers, compressed/instrument air, water and cooling systems, plant HVAC, and fire protection.
- Manage and schedule on-site crews to deliver project milestones on time and to SpaceXAI’s quality and reliability standards.
- Ensure crew adhere to mechanical scope, delivering high-integrity process and BOP systems critical to generation, start-up, and plant uptime.
- Monitor daily progress of construction, maintaining detailed logs, red-line drawings, and as-built documentation for all plant mechanical infrastructure.
- Develop and enforce aggressive construction schedules while keeping the project on time and within budget.
- Champion and enforce SpaceXAI’s safety program, building a zero-incident culture across all teams working around heavy mechanical equipment, pressurized systems, fuel gas, and elevated work.
- Supervise foremen and mechanical crews, fostering teamwork and accountability in a high-stakes generating-plant environment.
- Proactively resolve on-site challenges — material delays, technical conflicts, sequencing issues, and coordination with electrical, civil, and process trades — with a strong focus on mechanical system reliability and code compliance.
- Conduct regular site inspections to verify compliance with local regulations, mechanical codes, safety protocols, and SpaceXAI’s quality standards.
- Prepare and present clear progress reports, mechanical construction metrics, and risk updates to senior leadership.
- Support mechanical completion, flushing, hydrotest, first fire, commissioning, and turnover to operations.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3+ years managing construction teams with a strong emphasis on large-scale industrial, power generation, or other mission-critical mechanical projects.
- 3+ years of direct hands-on experience in mechanical or electrical installations including process piping, pumps, heat exchangers, and plant mechanical systems — ideally on power plants, generating stations, or heavy industrial projects.
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Postsecondary diploma or degree in construction management, mechanical engineering, or related field.
- Proven track record supervising mechanical construction for gas turbine plants, generating stations, or similar industrial facilities.
- Familiarity with Memphis-area building codes, mechanical regulations (IMC, ASME, NFPA), and industrial / plant permitting.
- Experience with construction management software (Procore, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, MS Project, etc.) on complex infrastructure projects.
- Deep knowledge of mechanical construction critical paths, sequencing, and coordination with electrical, civil, and process trades through commissioning and start-up.
- Strong understanding of power plant mechanical systems, including fuel gas, lube oil, compressed/instrument air, cooling water, and BOP piping designed for continuous generation.
- Demonstrated ability to lead diverse crews under tight deadlines while maintaining collaboration and safety.
- Expert-level commitment to mechanical safety (pressure systems, fuel gas, LOTO, confined space) and history of building strong safety cultures on regulated sites.
- Excellent problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills for technically complex mechanical scenarios.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, Project) for reporting and scheduling.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to relocate within the US depending on construction location(s).
- Subject to pre-employment drug screening and random drug and alcohol testing.
- Subject to pre-employment and annual post-employment background checks.
- Comfortable working in industrial environments with exposure to noise, heavy equipment, excavations, and mechanical systems.
- Available for evenings and weekends as site operational needs dictate.
- Ability to lift 25+ lbs and perform physically demanding tasks in outdoor/tight conditions.
