About Groq
Inference is the engine that powers AI, and Groq was built from the silicon up to deliver the world's fastest inference at scale. We pioneered the LPU—the first processor designed specifically for AI inference—and are transforming that innovation into a global cloud platform powering production AI workloads.

With the capital, infrastructure, and team to execute, we're uniquely positioned to define the next era of AI infrastructure. The opportunity is massive, and it's still wide open. Now let's go build it!

Mission:

Install, configure, maintain, and support the data center infrastructure that powers Groq’s AI inference cloud. As a Data Center Technician, you will own day-to-day hands-on operations within the data center, helping ensure our compute and network infrastructure operates reliably and is ready to scale.

Location: Sydney, AUS

Responsibilities & opportunities in this role:

As a Data Center Technician, you will serve as a Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) for daily operations within the data center. You will lead hands-on installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of compute and network infrastructure supporting Groq’s AI workloads.
  • Receive, unpack, move, and install servers and other equipment on the data center floor.
  • Install, cable, and maintain servers, network switches, and power distribution units (PDUs) in racks.
  • Perform hardware-level bring-up and testing using Linux command-line tools.
  • Maintain accurate inventory and asset accountability for data center equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues involving rack, node, cabling, and hardware failures.
  • Run scripts and diagnostic tools to identify and repair rack cabling and other hardware issues.
  • Create, update, and resolve tickets in Groq’s ticketing system to maintain clear records of operational work.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation supporting 24/7 data center operations.
  • Execute final testing and sign-off for newly built racks.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams on data center upgrades, deployments, and expansions.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including diagrams, procedures, and operational runbooks.
  • Execute work in accordance with data center standards, policies, and procedures while maintaining a high bar for reliability and operational consistency.

Ideal candidates have/are:

  • 2+ years of experience in data center operations or a related field.
  • Strong working knowledge of data center infrastructure, including servers, storage systems, and network devices.
  • Hands-on experience installing, cabling, maintaining, and troubleshooting server and network hardware.
  • Intermediate Linux skills and comfort working from the command line.
  • Advanced fiber optic cabling skills.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python or Bash.
  • Experience with data center management software, such as DCIM or BMS.
  • Familiarity with virtualization and container orchestration technologies, including Kubernetes.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to maintain accurate operational and asset records.
  • Able to prioritize and execute effectively in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Curious and motivated to continuously improve your knowledge of data center infrastructure and operations.
  • Familiarity with tools such as MacBooks, Slack, and Google Workspace.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
