ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Supervisor, OSP Fiber will lead a team of five fiber technicians responsible for installing, splicing, testing, and maintaining outside plant fiber infrastructure for a new data center. This is a hands-on leadership role: you will set daily priorities, own crew safety and quality, and still work in the field alongside the team. You will be accountable for schedule, as-built accuracy, and delivering a reliable OSP fiber plant from construction through turnover and ongoing operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Hire, train, schedule, and develop a team of fiber technicians; provide coaching, performance feedback, and coverage planning
- Plan and assign daily OSP work (aerial and underground placement, vault/handhole work, splicing, terminations, and testing) to meet data center construction and cutover schedules
- Lead by example as a working supervisor; perform splicing, testing, and field work as needed
- Enforce safety, PPE, lockout, traffic control, and utility-locate practices; stop work when conditions are unsafe
- Own quality of splices, OTDR/OLTS results, labeling, and as-built records; drive rework to zero
- Coordinate with OSP engineering, construction, utilities, and data center teams on design changes, access, and outage windows
- Track production, quality, and material usage; report status, risks, and resource needs to leadership
- Manage tools, fusion splicers, test equipment, vehicles, and fiber/consumable inventory
- Ensure field work matches issued drawings and company standards; capture redlines and close as-builts with engineering
- Support commissioning, emergency restoration, and after-hours work as required for a 24/7 data center environment
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- 5+ years of experience in fiber optic OSP installation, splicing, testing, or maintenance
- 2+ years of experience leading technicians (supervisor, foreman, or team lead)
- Hands-on proficiency with fusion splicing and fiber test equipment (OTDR, OLTS, or equivalent)
- Willing and able to work in the field, including outdoor construction conditions, and to work nights, weekends, or overtime as needed
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Associate’s degree or trade certification in fiber optics, telecommunications, or a related field
- Experience supervising OSP or data center fiber crews through new site build-out
- Fiber certifications (FOA CFOT, BICSI, Corning, AFL, or equivalent)
- Experience with aerial and buried fiber, conduit/duct banks, vaults, handholes, and building-entrance laterals
- Familiarity with TIA/BICSI guidelines, NESC, locates, and local permitting/construction practices
- Ability to read OSP drawings, splice diagrams, and GIS/route maps and to produce accurate field redlines
- OSHA 10/30, first aid/CPR, or similar safety training
- Strong communication, timekeeping, and work-order discipline; comfortable coordinating vendors and construction trades
- Experience standing up a new team, including hiring, training plans, and tool/equipment setup
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Schedule varies depending on site operational needs; frequent overtime and weekend support is required
- Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions, climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs., and working on ladders/lifts at elevated heights
- Ability to work in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, noise, heat, cold, and rain
- Ability to rapidly change roles/responsibilities while working in a high-paced, challenging work environment
