Staff Brand Designer

About the Team
Snorkel's Marketing team shapes how the AI industry understands frontier data development. We're a team spanning brand, content, communications, product marketing, growth, community, and events, and we work directly with our founders and research team to turn original research into market-defining stories. Brand sits at the center of that work: it's how a data research lab earns attention from frontier labs, Fortune 500 enterprises, top researchers, and the domain experts who contribute to our work.
About the Role
We're hiring a Staff Brand Designer to own the evolution of Snorkel's brand identity. Snorkel has changed faster than its brand has. You'll close that gap: defining where the visual identity goes next, building the system that carries it, and making sure every surface, from the website to a NeurIPS booth to a benchmark leaderboard, looks like it came from the most rigorous lab in AI.
This is a senior individual-contributor role with real leverage and autonomy. You'll be hands-on in the work, and you'll also manage our design agency and a bench of freelance contractors, setting direction, reviewing work, and holding a high bar across everything they ship. This role reports to the CMO.
Responsibilities
- Own the brand identity. Lead the next evolution of Snorkel's visual identity, including logo system, typography, color, illustration, iconography, data visualization, motion, and photography direction.
- Build and govern the brand system. Create and maintain brand guidelines, Figma libraries, templates, and design artifacts that let marketing, sales, research, and recruiting produce on-brand work without a designer in the loop.
- Manage our design agency and contractors. Brief, set creative direction, run reviews, and own quality, scope, timelines, and budget across agency and freelance partners. Decide what gets built in-house versus outsourced, and build the contractor bench as needs grow.
- Design high-visibility launches. Lead creative for major moments, including funding and company announcements, research and benchmark launches, flagship events like our Frontier Data Summit, and conference presence at NeurIPS and other AI venues.
- Make research legible and beautiful. Develop a distinctive visual language for technical content: benchmark results, charts, diagrams, papers, leaderboards, and research blog posts. Partner with researchers so our ideas are as clear visually as they are rigorous.
- Raise the bar across surfaces. Partner with web, content, and product marketing on the website, campaigns, social, sales decks, and event experiences so the brand holds together end to end.
- Set the design operating model. Establish intake, prioritization, review, and approval processes, and introduce AI-assisted design workflows where they make the team faster without lowering quality.
About You
You've shaped a brand. You have strong opinions about craft and can defend them to a founder, a researcher, or an agency creative director – yet you maintain flexibility with letting the brand organically evolve in a dynamic space like AI. You're as comfortable redesigning a logo system as you are giving precise, actionable feedback. You're drawn to technical subject matter and see explaining complex ideas visually as a design problem worth solving. You move fast, you own outcomes, and you raise the standard of everyone you work with.
Requirements
- 8+ years of brand or visual design experience, including in-house brand design at a high-growth technology company.
- A portfolio showing identity or rebrand work you led end to end, plus a broad range of applications: web, campaigns, events, videos, and data visualization.
- Proven experience directing external design agencies and freelancers, including writing briefs, managing scope and budget, and holding partners to a high quality bar.
- Expert craft in typography, layout, color, and composition, with a clear point of view on where brand design for AI is heading
- Deep fluency in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite, and experience building scalable design systems and brand guidelines others actually use.
- Track record leading ambiguous, cross-functional initiatives, influencing senior stakeholders, and making decisions without close oversight.
- Comfort translating technical and research content into clear, compelling visuals.
Bonus
- Experience at an AI, developer tools, or research-driven company.
- Hands-on use of generative AI tools in your design workflow.
- Motion design, 3D, or creative coding skills.
