Head of Procurement

About the team/role

Checkr is hiring a Head of Procurement to lead our procurement team. Reporting to the Controller, this role owns our procurement workflows and partners directly with budget holders across the business to drive negotiation strategy on new spend and contract renewals.

This is a hands-on leadership role: part negotiation, part people management, part cross functional partnership. The right candidate is comfortable running vendor negotiations personally, coaching a team to do the same, while providing visibility to the organization.

What you’ll do

• Lead and develop a high-performing procurement team, setting expectations, priorities and growth plans.
• Build the operating system (intake SLAs, negotiation playbooks, escalation paths) that lets the team run efficiently as the company grows.
• Partner with cross functional stakeholders across departments to shape negotiation strategy for new spend and contract renewals.
• Own Checkr's procurement policy, approval thresholds, and vendor onboarding/due diligence process.
• Build the SOX controls and audit requirements related to procurement and vendor spend controls.

What you bring

• 10+ years of experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, or vendor management, including direct people management experience.
• A track record of personally negotiating contracts across a range of spend categories (software/SaaS, professional services, facilities, etc.).
• Hands-on experience with a procure-to-pay or intake/orchestration platform (Zip or comparable tools).
• Strong cross-functional influence skills driving alignment with budget holders and stakeholders.
• Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with evolving process and tooling.
• Clear, structured communication; able to translate procurement activity into terms finance and executive leadership can act on.
• An A-player mindset with a strong bias for action: you raise the bar, move with urgency, stay resilient through ambiguity, and take ownership to deliver meaningful outcome.
