Systems Infrastructure Engineer

In This Role

In this contract role, You will join a small, high-impact engineering environment focused on building and scaling infrastructure for modern systems workloads. You will own critical infrastructure across cloud compute, virtualization, benchmarking, CI/CD, testing, and automation, helping engineers provision environments, validate system performance, and move software from development toward production. Your work will include building reliable benchmarking frameworks, automating build and test workflows, troubleshooting Linux and Windows environments, and identifying performance or infrastructure regressions. You will work closely with experienced engineers and researchers, with meaningful ownership over infrastructure that directly supports engineering velocity, performance validation, and production readiness.

Responsibilities 

Infrastructure & Cloud Environment

• Provision and manage multi-platform cloud compute environments.
• Automate environment configuration and reduce manual setup and maintenance.
• Coordinate host access and workload isolation across development environments.
• Maintain cloud subscriptions with a focus on compliance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
• Improve development environments and infrastructure supporting engineering workflows.

Benchmarking & Performance Infrastructure

• Own and extend benchmarking infrastructure for virtual machine lifecycle measurements.
• Measure and analyze metrics including boot latency, snapshot and restore performance, teardown time, memory footprint, and throughput.
• Design benchmarking experiments for both single-instance and concurrent-burst scenarios.
• Identify performance regressions and improve validation across system baselines.

CI/CD & Testing Infrastructure

• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines across project repositories.
• Automate build, test, and validation workflows triggered by code changes.
• Manage delivery channels for kernel, VM, and agent artifacts.
• Improve developer feedback loops and reduce infrastructure-related iteration time.
• Troubleshoot development and test environments across Linux and Windows.

Systems Engineering & Automation

• Automate infrastructure and engineering workflows through scripting and tooling.
• Support virtualization and hypervisor-based environments.
• Investigate infrastructure, performance, and test regressions.
• Partner closely with engineers and researchers to improve the reliability and scalability of development infrastructure.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 3+ years of experience with Linux systems administration and OS-level troubleshooting.
• 3+ years of experience with CI/CD, test infrastructure, and engineering automation.
• 3+ years of experience in systems or infrastructure engineering, including virtualization, cloud compute environments, and scripting.
• Strong Linux fundamentals and experience troubleshooting complex development environments.
• Experience working with cloud compute environments and infrastructure automation.
• Experience with scripting and automated engineering workflows.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated build/test processes.
• Demonstrated experience appropriate for a senior-level systems/infrastructure engineering role.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong open-source contribution history with meaningful technical contributions.
• Strong GitHub portfolio demonstrating hands-on engineering work.
• Previous experience working at a major technology company.
• Experience with virtualization and hypervisors.
• Experience with VM lifecycle operations.
• Experience with performance benchmarking and systems performance analysis.
• Experience supporting both Linux and Windows test environments.
• Experience working close to systems software.
• Experience in systems research or research-engineering environments.
• Experience building infrastructure for testing, benchmarking, or systems integration.
• Experience supporting AI-enabled automation or AIOps infrastructure.

Salary Range 

Pay ranges vary based on multiple factors including, without limitation, skill sets, education, responsibilities, experience, and geographical market. The pay range for this position reflects geographic based ranges for Washington state: $150,000 - $160,000 USD/annually. The salary/wage and job title for this opening will be based on the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience and may be outside this range. 

Location: Fully Onsite 5days/week in Redmond, WA
