About ai&
ai& is a new global AI technology company dedicated to meeting the world's growing demand for AI. Our vision is twofold: to serve as a premier AI lab specializing in localization, and to act as a global infrastructure and compute provider. We are building a unified, optimized global platform that integrates next-generation data centers and infrastructure, heterogeneous compute serving, and advanced model services. We believe that the most effective way to build and scale AI is to own the stack from top to bottom.
At ai&, we empower small teams with the autonomy needed to tackle significant challenges. Our approach is to deconstruct large problems into manageable components and solve complex issues collaboratively. We seek highly motivated, mission-driven individuals who demonstrate strong personal agency. We value curiosity as the foundation of talent, and we are looking for people eager to develop alongside our evolving technology and expanding business.
We are actively hiring worldwide, with presence in Tokyo, SF, Austin, and Toronto. We are more than happy to meet exceptional talent where they are.
Role overview
As a Data Center Electrical Engineer at ai&, you own the electrical systems that make our facilities production-ready. From utility entry to the rack, you are responsible for designing, specifying, and overseeing the installation and commissioning of every electrical system in our data centers. You are the person who signs off that the power infrastructure is ready before anything gets turned on inside.
AI infrastructure at the scale we are building is electrically demanding in ways that most data center designs do not anticipate. Modern GPU rack-scale systems push power densities that require careful, deliberate electrical design from the earliest stages of a project. You understand those demands and you design for them from day one — not as an afterthought.
This is a full lifecycle role. You will be involved from site assessment and design through construction oversight and final commissioning, working closely with the data center operations, systems, and facilities teams to ensure the electrical infrastructure is reliable, efficient, and built to scale.
Responsibilities
Electrical System Design Own the end-to-end electrical design of ai& data center facilities. This covers utility coordination, switchgear, transformers, UPS systems, generators, PDUs, busways, and rack-level power distribution. Design for the redundancy and reliability requirements of production AI workloads.
High-Density Power Architecture Design power systems capable of supporting the extreme power densities of modern rack-scale GPU deployments. Understand the electrical requirements of NVL72 and equivalent systems and design distribution infrastructure that meets them without compromise.
Construction & Installation Oversight Manage electrical contractors through construction and installation. Ensure all work is executed to specification, reviewed against design intent, and documented thoroughly.
Commissioning & Testing Own the electrical commissioning process. Define and execute testing and validation procedures for all electrical systems. Ensure every system performs as designed under load before handover to operations.
Standards & Compliance Ensure all electrical designs meet relevant codes, standards, and regulatory requirements across jurisdictions including Japan and international markets. Maintain complete documentation through every phase of a project.
Capacity & Efficiency Planning Model power capacity, redundancy levels, and PUE contributions across current and future facilities. Identify design choices that improve efficiency and reduce operating costs without compromising reliability.
Cross-Team Collaboration Work closely with the data center architect, facility operations, and systems teams to ensure the electrical infrastructure integrates cleanly with mechanical, cooling, and compute systems.
You may be a fit if you have the following skills
Data Center Electrical Design Experience Proven experience designing electrical systems for large-scale data center facilities end to end. You have taken projects from design through commissioning and you are familiar with every system in between.
High-Density Compute Power Experience Experience designing power infrastructure for high-density GPU or HPC environments. You understand what modern AI compute demands electrically and you design for it from the start.
Construction & Commissioning Track Record Experience managing electrical contractors through construction and commissioning. You hold vendors to specification, manage schedule, and execute thorough testing before handover.
Standards & Regulatory Knowledge Deep familiarity with electrical codes and standards relevant to data center design. Experience working across multiple jurisdictions including Japan is a strong signal.
Cross-Discipline Collaboration Comfortable working alongside mechanical, civil, and structural engineers. You understand how electrical design decisions interact with other building systems and you coordinate across disciplines effectively.
Great Team Spirit A mission-driven approach to engineering, valuing clear communication, hands-on execution, and collective success over individual silos.
