About Basis
Basis builds real agents that do real work in the real economy. Our agents operate for hours at a time, performing end-to-end work for some of the largest accounting firms in the world.
We recently raised $100M at >$1B valuation and are racing to deploy the most advanced applied ML at production scale.
Our investors include: Khosla Ventures (Keith Rabois & Vinod Khosla), Accel (Miles Clements), Google Ventures, Nat Friedman & Daniel Gross, Adam D'Angelo, Jeff Dean, Jack Altman, Noam Brown, Kyle Vogt, Amjad Masad, Clem Delangue and many other operators/technical leaders.
"Basis is on the frontier of building production-grade, long-horizon agents. They've pushed the limits of what we thought our models could do on real-world, economically valuable, complex accounting tasks. They've been a great collaborator in helping us shape what the future of agents looks like." — Prashant Mital, Applied AI Lead, OpenAI
What you'll be doing
Accounting is a relationship-driven industry, and the most convincing thing we can put in front of a CFO or a firm partner is another one telling their own story. Video is how we do that at scale. It's also how we show what our agents actually do, in a category where most people have to see it to believe it. Basis is early in video, which means the person in this seat defines what we make and how we make it.
You'll own video end to end. That includes our in-office studio and the podcast we produce there, customer testimonials shot on location, conference and event content, recruiting and brand films, and the product and launch video that supports every campaign. It also includes the platform-native cuts that come out of all of it.
This role is built for someone who wants the whole range. You'll be as comfortable scoping a shoot, building the shot list, and running the camera as you are in the timeline afterward. Pre-production is yours, and it's the part that most determines whether a shoot is good or just expensive. You'll own our agency and freelance relationships outright, from scoping and budgets through on-set direction and final quality control. You'll be our lead editor, cutting some projects entirely yourself and directing external editors on others.
As we scale, you'll build the playbook that makes all of it repeatable: the formats worth investing in, the studio workflow, the partners we call for which kind of work, and the pipeline that turns one production day into a month of content.
What you'll bring
End-to-end range. Real depth across pre-production, production, and post, with a portfolio that shows both footage you shot and cuts you made.
On-set craft. Command of camera, lighting, and audio, including the ability to light and run a multi-camera interview on your own and get clean sound every time.
Directing instinct. A knack for making people who aren't professional talent sound like themselves on camera.
Pre-production discipline. The habit of solving problems on paper before the crew shows up.
Editorial judgment. The taste to set the bar on a cut and the clarity to give notes that raise someone else's work to it.
Partner management. A track record scoping, briefing, budgeting, and directing agencies and freelancers.
AI in the workflow. Eagerness to use AI across scripting, transcript-driven assembly, and generative assets to make the function faster.
0-1 mindset. Comfort building the video function and its processes from scratch.
Other non-negotiables:
4-7 years producing and editing video, ideally on an in-house brand or creative team or at a production company serving brand clients
Command of Premiere or Resolve, plus enough After Effects or equivalent to handle light motion work
A reel that demonstrates both shooting and editing
In person 5 days a week in our Flatiron office (when not traveling)
What we'd love to see
Studio and podcast production: A room, a rig, or a show you stood up and ran on a reliable schedule.
Customer storytelling: Testimonial or case study video, especially shot on location at a customer's office.
Event capture: Conference or live event production, including turning a few days of footage into a full content slate.
Motion design: Design and animation chops that let you raise the quality bar without outsourcing it.
B2B range: Work for a business audience that people actually chose to watch.
Accounting industry fluency: Familiarity with the accounting profession and genuine curiosity about the people we're putting on camera.
What Success Looks Like
Customer proof on demand: Testimonial video is ready when a conference, launch, or campaign needs it.
A studio that runs: The podcast ships on schedule, and production quality is a reason people watch rather than something they overlook.
Partner leverage: Our agencies produce stronger work for us than for anyone else because the pre-production and direction are that tight.
Compounding output: Every production day yields a hero piece plus the platform-native cuts, planned in advance.
Operational scale: A documented video playbook is in place that lets the team 10x output without 10x effort.
Brand authority: Basis becomes synonymous with the future of AI in accounting through consistently high-quality video that people share on their own.
