In This Role
As a Lab/Test Engineer 2, you will support the quality and release validation of innovative Mixed Reality (MR) and Virtual Reality (VR) applications and immersive experiences. You will perform hands-on manual, exploratory, regression, compatibility, and automated testing across VR/MR devices and software platforms. You will validate new features, software updates, bug fixes, releases, and hotfixes while investigating product performance, usability, reliability, and potential quality risks.
You will work closely with software developers and cross-functional partners to reproduce and troubleshoot defects, evaluate customer-reported issues, maintain test documentation, and drive issues through resolution. You will also help determine appropriate test coverage, monitor release readiness, communicate risks and blockers, and provide regular status updates. This is a highly hands-on role that requires frequent use of VR/MR headsets and specialized testing equipment.
Responsibilities
- Execute test plans, test scenarios, and validation procedures for Mixed Reality and Virtual Reality applications and platforms.
- Perform manual, exploratory, regression, compatibility, feature, and automated testing across immersive experiences and devices.
- Validate new features, system modifications, software updates, bug fixes, releases, and hotfixes.
- Test and validate SDK functionality, workflows, integrations, and immersive-content pipelines.
- Develop, maintain, and execute automated test scripts and test infrastructure.
- Coordinate release validation activities and ensure testing milestones remain aligned with release schedules.
- Determine appropriate test coverage, environments, and validation strategies for releases and hotfixes.
- Document, prioritize, and report software defects using bug tracking and test management systems.
- Reproduce reported issues and work with developers to troubleshoot problems and drive timely resolution.
- Monitor defect resolution and maintain accurate, prioritized defect tracking.
- Create and maintain test plans, test cases, release checklists, validation procedures, and quality reports.
- Analyze test results and identify quality gaps, release risks, and opportunities to improve test coverage.
- Investigate customer-reported issues, crash reports, and other high-impact product issues.
- Triage customer feedback and migrate issues into centralized tracking systems as appropriate.
- Monitor product quality and performance throughout the release cycle.
- Provide daily updates regarding testing progress, release readiness, risks, and blockers.
- Proactively communicate quality concerns and help drive issue resolution with engineering partners.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 2–4 years of experience in software testing, Quality Assurance, test engineering, or release validation.
- Experience with manual, exploratory, regression, compatibility, and feature testing.
- Experience developing and maintaining automated test scripts and/or test infrastructure.
- Experience creating and maintaining test plans, test cases, validation procedures, release checklists, and quality reports.
- Experience analyzing test results and providing actionable recommendations regarding software quality.
- Familiarity with bug tracking and test management tools such as Azure DevOps, Jira, or similar platforms.
- Strong troubleshooting, debugging, root-cause investigation, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with software developers and cross-functional teams.
- Ability to wear and actively use VR/MR headsets for extended testing sessions, approximately 4–6 hours per day.
- Ability to work onsite and utilize specialized testing equipment, prototypes, and laboratory facilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience testing Mixed Reality, Virtual Reality, spatial computing, or immersive applications.
- Experience testing devices such as Meta Quest 3 or similar VR/MR hardware.
- Experience with Volumetric SDKs or immersive media technologies.
- Experience with 3D content workflows and immersive-content pipelines.
- Proficiency in C#, C++, or automated test development.
- Experience with Android application development or testing.
- Experience with Java and/or Kotlin.
- Familiarity with MR platform APIs, hardware/software integration, and device validation.
- Experience with performance testing, profiling, or low-latency applications.
- Experience identifying release risks, quality gaps, and test-coverage deficiencies before they impact customers.
- Experience working with emerging hardware/software platforms or prototype technologies.
Compensation
At Blueprint, we strive to offer competitive pay that reflects the value of our team members. Compensation for this role is influenced by a variety of factors, including skills, education, responsibilities, experience, and geographic market.
For candidates based in Washington State, the anticipated compensation range is $40 to $48 USD per hour. Please note that we typically do not hire new employees at the top of the posted range. Actual starting pay will be determined based on experience, skills, and internal equity. The final compensation and job title may vary depending on the selected candidate’s qualifications.
Location and Work Arrangement
This is a 100% onsite position.
