Founding Product Engineer

About the Role

This is a founding product engineering role at a seed-stage AI/construction-tech startup, sitting on a small, high-impact team building computer vision and AI tools that automate blueprint reading, material takeoffs, and cost estimation. You'll work end-to-end — from customer discovery to shipping — and directly shape both the product and the company's direction.

What You'll Do

• Own features fully, from interviewing customers weekly to shipping useful iterations fast.

• Build intuitive UIs that make complex blueprint and hardware data accessible to users accustomed to paper-based workflows.

• Contribute across the stack — React frontend, Python backend, and infrastructure.

• Architect and build 0-to-1, taking ideas from concept to production.

• Translate messy domain knowledge from customers into clear, actionable product decisions.

• Influence product direction, not just implementation details.

• Apply strong product taste to how things look, feel, and work for end users.

• Handle the operational "schlep" that keeps an early-stage startup moving.

What We're Looking For

• Demonstrated ability to build and ship software across the full stack; new grads with strong portfolios are welcome.

• Hands-on experience with React for frontend and Python for backend services and infrastructure.

• Track record of owning features end-to-end and engaging directly with customers.

• Comfort designing architecture and building products from scratch (0-to-1 mindset).

• Strong product taste and user-focused design sensibility.

• Excellent communication skills and a genuine growth mindset.

• Bonus: Prior founder experience or early-stage startup background (shipped something customers used or paid for).

• Bonus: Construction domain knowledge or clear enthusiasm for the industry.

• Must be eligible to work in the US (no visa sponsorship available) and willing to work on-site in San Francisco.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $120,000 – $180,000 USD annually. Equity available at a seed-stage company. No visa sponsorship available.

Location

On-site in San Francisco, CA, USA. Relocation welcomed.
