Description

About the role

Anthropic's community spans developers building new products, individual Claude users, and practitioners and buyers inside enterprise accounts — from the staff engineer using Claude Code to C-Suite decision-makers. We're hiring a Head of Community to turn our current set of programs into a function that helps millions of people build real skills with Claude, measurably growing retained users and product adoption.

You'll lead and grow a global team that covers ambassadors programs, regional community leads, and enterprise champion programs. Your job is to give this team a sharp operating model and a measurement framework that ladders our initiatives to business outcomes, so users can get the most out of Claude. You'll build community across audiences, seniority levels, functions, and roles: enterprise buyers and executive sponsors, developers and technical practitioners, and the knowledge workers in between. This role sits at the intersection of Product, Sales, PMM, Brand, and Comms.

Key responsibilities

  • Own the global community strategy and operating model: the audience thesis, the portfolio of programs, and what's built centrally vs. run in-region

  • Lead, coach, and scale a global team of program and regional owners; hire the gaps, set the bar, and develop community-native operators

  • Define the measurement framework that replaces activity metrics: partner with Product and Data Science to define success metrics and segment the base (non-user → occasional → high-value daily) — with recurring retained users and product adoption as the top-line outcomes

  • Build community across the full range of audiences and seniority levels, with programs and voice tuned to each without fragmenting the experience

  • Connect bottoms-up adoption to enterprise expansion: architect the champions, train-the-trainer, and partner ecosystem motions that turn power users inside accounts into org-wide adoption, and integrate them into how Sales and CS run strategic account plans

  • Bring training, certification, enablement, and community help together into one engine that scales through champions and partners — so users experience a single path to skill-building with Claude

  • Partner tightly with Brand and Comms to keep sentiment and awareness healthy: define where community shows up in Anthropic's brand and how we best serve our users

  • Align community strategy proactively with product direction, launches, and pricing & packaging — owning community's job pre-launch, at launch, and post-launch, and proving it drives value for our users

You may be a good fit if you

  • Have built and led a community or customer advocacy function at a company where community was a growth lever, not a cost center — and can point to the retention, adoption, or expansion outcomes it drove

  • Have led and developed a distributed team of program owners and regional leads accountable for commercial impact

  • Think in funnels and segments as naturally as you think in programs: you're comfortable putting your name on a metric in a QBR and defending how community moved it

  • Have connected self-serve, bottoms-up adoption inside large accounts to enterprise expansion, and can articulate exactly where community sits in that motion

  • Can flex your playbook across very different audiences — a technical, API-first developer community and an enterprise executive buyer community are different jobs, and you've done versions of both

  • Operate as an integrated marketer: you've worked day-to-day with cross-functional teams and have strong opinions about how community stays customer-first

  • Are comfortable partnering with Product and Data Science to define usage quality, instrument it, and hold your team to it

  • Write and communicate clearly, hold a room with both a Staff engineer and a CIO, and are energized by ambiguity and building at speed

Strong candidates may also have

  • Run community or advocacy at a company operating both a PLG / self-serve motion and an enterprise sales motion at the same time

  • Built or led a recognized champions, ambassadors, or advocacy program at a company known for the model

  • Experience with developer tools, infrastructure, or AI products, and credibility with technical audiences

  • Built the measurement plumbing for a community function before including cohorting, attribution, and usage segmentation

  • International experience standing up or scaling community in-region (EMEA, Japan/APAC) with a clear philosophy on what runs centrally vs. locally

  • A track record of listening to communities and building user trust through hard moments alongside a Comms team

  • Background spanning more than one of: community, customer marketing, developer relations, customer education/enablement, or growth

Role-specific policy: For this role, we expect staff to be able to work from our San Francisco or New York office at least once a month for cross-functional stakeholder engagement. Additionally, this role will require up to 40% travel for events and customer engagements.

Deadline to apply: None. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
