Description

About the Role

As the Technical Program Manager for Government Partnerships, you'll own Anthropic's day-to-day operational engagement with NIST’s US Center for Advancing Innovation and Standards for Super Intelligence (NIST CAISSI), the UK AI Security Institute (AISI), and other key government partners. These institutions evaluate our models, collaborate with our researchers, and are essential partners in advancing the safety and security of AI. You'll run what makes that work possible.

This role will require extensive collaboration both with our government partners and with many teams across Anthropic notably our teams involved in policy, safeguards, model launches, and research on areas such as alignment, monitorability, cybersecurity, and biosecurity.

Things that make someone a great fit for this job: deep understanding of government and ideally specific understanding of these agencies, skill with delivering fast-paced tactical work, and strategic understanding of how Anthropic and our government partners can mutually achieve our objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the day-to-day relationship - Serve as the primary operational contact for all interactions between Anthropic and these government partners. Run regular meetings with our partners, triage every request, build the trackers and playbooks that let the work scale both for consistency with these partners and where valuable to more government partners.

  • Manage model access end to end - Ensure each partner has the access they need, under the right agreement, at the right time for the duration of time they need the access.

  • Coordinate legal agreements - Work with Legal to negotiate, amend, and maintain MOUs, evaluation plans, research plans, NDAs, and data-sharing agreements that govern the work.

  • Drive partner testing throughout the model launch process - Partner with launch teams to brief the institutes on upcoming models, deliver technical reports, and answer questions fast. Get findings to the researchers who need them in time to use them. Bring a point of view on how to align partner testing to impact within Anthropic and provide input where requested by partners on the research and evaluation directions which are uniquely valuable to Anthropic.

  • Coordinate research collaborations - Identify opportunities to connect government researchers with Anthropic researchers where there is mutual interest. Scope the work, keep it moving, and align government partner research efforts to where their work has the most impact.

  • Manage publications and incidents - Coordinate review of system card text, blog language, and partner reports with Communications and Legal. Lead coordination when testing surfaces a vulnerability or incident or when Anthropic conducts an incident disclosure.

You may be a good fit if you:

  • Have worked in government and know from the inside how agencies work, coordinate with each other, and interact with prevailing political direction.

  • Have delivered complex, cross-functional programs where a missed step had real world consequences.

  • Can follow the technical thread on model evaluations and safeguards well enough to brief a researcher or a government counterpart.

  • Have managed MOUs, CRADAs, or information-sharing agreements between government and industry.

  • Build trust quickly and know what can be shared, with whom, and through which channel.

  • Are mid-career to senior and work independently. From government, that is roughly a GS-14 or GS-15, a UK Grade 6 or Grade 7, or equivalent.

  • Can work across US and UK time zones, travel regularly, and cover early or late hours around launches.

  • Care about Anthropic's mission and about building government capacity on frontier AI.

Strong candidates may also:

  • Have worked at NIST CAISSI, UK AISI, ONCD, or a close partner agency such as CISA, NSA’s Artificial Intelligence Security Center (AISC), OSTP, or NCSC.

  • Bring existing working relationships at these organizations.

  • Have hands-on experience with AI evaluations, cybersecurity, or biosecurity.

Deadline to apply: None, applications will be received on a rolling basis.

Annual Salary: TBD with Recruiting.

Note for Recruiting: append the standard Logistics, How we're different, and Come work with us sections before posting.
