Description

TL;DR: We're looking for someone who has run a US GAAP close, sat across the table from Big 4 auditors, and wants to build a continuous close where AI does the routine work and people do the thinking. You'll own our month-end close and consolidation process across the US, Sweden and the UK, reporting to our Accounting Controller. You'll build a close designed for scale, with the structure and controls a much bigger company will need built in from the start rather than bolted on later. This is an operating role, not an advisory one.

Why Lovable?

Lovable is the software creation platform that gives people the power to act on the problems closest to them. For decades, turning an idea into software required so much capital, technical fluency, and time that many ideas never came to life. Lovable is the counterargument: a platform for all people with ideas, ambition, and problems worth solving. From solopreneurs to small business owners to teams at companies like Adidas and Zendesk, people have built over 60 million projects on Lovable since its launch in November 2024. And we’re just getting started.

We’re building a generational company from Stockholm, with growing teams in London, Boston, New York, and San Francisco. Our team is small, talent-dense, and moving quickly, with a culture rooted in extreme ownership, high velocity, and low-ego collaboration. We look for people who care deeply, ship fast, and are eager to make a dent in the world.

Lovable is one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential Companies and has been recognized on the Forbes AI 50 and CNBC Disruptor 50, reflecting our momentum as one of Europe’s fastest-growing AI companies and one of the most ambitious places to build in this next era of software.

The role

Most accounting teams take the close they have today and add AI to it. We'd rather design it from scratch, assuming agents and automation are available, and keep people for review, judgment and the hard calls. Over time we want the close to run continuously rather than as a scramble at month-end.

That only works if the structure underneath is solid. Every automated reconciliation still needs an owner, a review and evidence an auditor can rely on. Every journal entry an agent prepares still needs the right controls around it. You'll be the person who holds both ideas at once: pushing hard on automation while making sure what we build would hold up under SOX.

You'll report to our Accounting Controller, and work alongside a small team. This is a hands-on lead role. You'll own the close, do a lot of the work yourself and help build a legacy with no formal direct reports today.

What you’ll do

  • Own our month-end close and consolidation process across our US, Swedish and UK entities under US GAAP.

  • Run the close calendar so it lands on time every month, and shorten it as automation takes over routine work.

  • Partner with the Controller on the move toward a continuous close. Build or direct automated reconciliations, flux analysis and journal entry workflows, and decide where human review actually adds value.

  • Design controls, review steps and evidence trails into those workflows from the start, so they're audit-ready without a separate clean-up exercise.

  • Support the group external audit for your areas: PBC requests, walkthroughs, reconciliations and support for audit adjustments.

  • Assist with the preparation and support of statutory audits in the UK and Sweden.

  • Keep close documentation and policies current and clear enough that a new team member or an auditor can follow them.

  • Work with Order-to-Cash, Financial Systems, Data and FP&A so the GL, subledgers and source systems tie out and stay that way.

  • Coach the accountants on the team and raise the bar on quality and ownership.

What we’re looking for

  • Must have

    • Has personally run a month-end close and consolidation under US GAAP across multiple entities. You know where a close actually breaks.

    • Has been through Big 4 audits from the company side.

    • A real drive to build an AI-first, continuous close, with examples of close processes you've already automated or redesigned.

    • A deep respect for the rigor a public company needs: controls, review evidence, documentation and calendars that hold up under scrutiny. You see automation as a way to get more discipline with less effort, not a reason to skip it.

    • Operationally minded: you'd rather fix a broken process than write a memo about it.

    Nice to have

    • Has been through a company's journey from startup to IPO or public-company readiness, including SOX.

    • Big 4 audit background before moving in-house.

    • Experience with Swedish or UK statutory reporting and audits.

    • Hands-on experience with modern finance tooling (we use Light ERP and Lovable), and comfortable building your own automations.

This role isn't for you if

    • You want an established close to run rather than one to redesign.

    • You'd rather wait for the perfect tool than build a working solution yourself this week.

    • You'd automate a process without being able to explain to an auditor how it's controlled.

    • You see AI as a side project rather than the default way the work gets done.
