ABOUT THE TEAM

OpenAI didn’t begin as a traditional company. It began as an idea: that artificial intelligence could be developed in a way that benefits everyone. As a creative team, our role is to help make sure the work behind that idea is understood, as it leaves the lab and meets the world.

This company works at the frontier of intelligence. Like any frontier, it’s unfinished, constantly shifting, and still being explored. Our job is to stay close to that uncertainty and help shape how this story gets told, in a way that feels grounded and human. We do this through campaigns, launches, films, brand systems, and work that doesn’t fit neatly into any of those categories yet. This team is for people who want to help shape something from the beginning.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re looking for an experienced Creative Director, Art to join our in-house creative team, focused on OpenAI’s business audiences. In this role, you’ll shape the visual direction and creative expression of our B2B brand across integrated campaigns, product launches, customer storytelling, and key industry moments.

You’ll help translate the capabilities of OpenAI’s technology into clear and compelling stories for business leaders, technical decision-makers, developers, and teams bringing AI into their organizations. The strongest work will make sophisticated products understandable without oversimplifying them—and connect what the technology can do with the real needs, ambitions, and outcomes of our customers.

This role sits at the intersection of conceptual thinking, visual craft, and business storytelling. You’ll partner closely with writers, designers, product marketers, sales and customer teams, product leaders, and external collaborators to develop big ideas and bring them to life across formats—from integrated campaigns and digital experiences to customer stories, films, events, and product storytelling.

To us, creativity is a team sport. Ideas get better when you talk them through and build on each other’s thinking. We value curiosity over certainty, kindness over ego, and the ability to balance creative ambition with clarity and decisiveness.

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL

  • Lead the visual concepting and creative direction for B2B campaigns, product launches, customer stories, and key industry initiatives

  • Develop compelling visual ideas that connect OpenAI’s products and technical capabilities to customer needs, organizational transformation, and business outcomes

  • Create work that resonates across a range of audiences, including enterprise leaders, technical decision-makers, developers, and teams adopting AI

  • Partner closely with Creative Directors, writers, designers, motion artists, producers, and product marketers to shape integrated campaign ideas

  • Provide creative leadership from early strategy and concept through final execution across multiple channels and formats

  • Guide the visual direction of campaign photography, illustration, motion, film, digital experiences, events, and customer storytelling—sometimes hands-on, often through external collaborators

  • Collaborate with Product Marketing, Product, Sales, Customer Success, Communications, and Research to turn complex technology and customer insights into credible, differentiated creative work

  • Build visual systems that can extend across the B2B customer journey, from awareness and product education to industry events and customer engagement

  • Help evolve OpenAI’s visual language for business audiences in ways that are distinctive, scalable, and expressive while remaining connected to the broader brand

  • Maintain a high bar for visual craft, conceptual thinking, and creative ambition, even when working within complex business or technical subject matter

  • Lead multiple creative initiatives simultaneously with clarity, strong judgment, and creative conviction

YOU MIGHT THRIVE IN THIS ROLE IF YOU

  • Have 10+ years of experience as an Art Director or Creative Director at a top-tier creative agency and/or in-house at a modern technology company, with experience in both strongly preferred

  • Bring a strong background in visual design and art direction across channels, including integrated campaigns, digital, social, film, product storytelling, events, and customer marketing

  • Have experience creating work for B2B, enterprise, developer, or other technically sophisticated audiences

  • Are a conceptual thinker who can develop big creative ideas and guide them from early strategy through execution

  • Know how to turn complex products, technical capabilities, and business challenges into visual stories that are clear, human, and memorable

  • Have experience leading integrated campaigns and large-scale brand initiatives across different stages of the customer journey

  • Can balance the need for enterprise credibility with the desire to create distinctive, culturally relevant work

  • Are comfortable operating in fast-moving environments with evolving priorities, multiple stakeholders, and complex creative challenges

  • Have exceptional design taste and a deep commitment to visual craft and storytelling

  • Are a strong cross-functional collaborator who works effectively with creative, product marketing, product, sales, communications, and production partners

  • Have experience guiding work through internal teams, agencies, and external creative vendors

  • Balance creative ambition with clarity, precision, and strategic thinking

NICE TO HAVE

  • Experience working on enterprise technology, developer platforms, AI, or emerging products

  • Experience creating campaigns for audiences that span executive buyers, technical decision-makers, developers, and end users

  • Motion design or film art direction experience

  • Experience leading visual storytelling for technical product launches, customer stories, or industry events

  • Experience developing modular creative systems that can scale across regions, industries, channels, and customer segments

  • Comfort giving creative direction in Figma, Google Slides, and production environments, including shoots and post-production

  • Curiosity about AI, the future of work, and how organizations adopt transformative technologies
