About

The Alpaca × Conviction Trading Hackathon brings together students, traders, builders, and fintech enthusiasts to turn market ideas into working trading strategies.

Come with a thesis. Leave with something you can actually test.

Using Conviction, participants will create and backtest a trading strategy based on an idea, signal, market event, technical indicator, social signal, or other investment thesis. You’ll have access to tools designed to make strategy creation and testing dramatically easier, without needing to build an entire trading stack from scratch.

The top projects will compete for $2,000 in prizes, and standout participants may also be considered for engineering opportunities with the teams behind the event.

Requirements

Build a testable trading strategy using Conviction.

Your strategy can be based on almost any market thesis. For example:

- Buy a stock when RSI falls below a certain threshold.

- Trade around earnings events.

- Respond to breaking news or social sentiment.

- Track insider activity or company fundamentals.

- Combine multiple technical indicators.

- Create a strategy based on macroeconomic or event-driven signals.

- Develop an agent that monitors the market and acts when specific conditions occur.

- We care more about the quality of the idea, reasoning, testing, and iteration than about making the most complicated strategy.

A great submission should answer:

What do you believe? How did you turn that belief into a strategy? What happened when you tested it? What did you learn?
