Social Media Manager — Community Builder (Facebook Group Growth)
About the Role
We're looking for a Social Media Manager to build a brand-new Facebook group from the ground up and grow it into an active, engaged community. This is a zero-to-one role: there is no existing audience to inherit. Your success will come from proactive outreach, smart recruitment, and the day-to-day work of making a community worth joining and staying in.
This role suits someone who is equal parts community manager and growth marketer — comfortable both fostering a welcoming space and rolling up their sleeves to personally recruit members.
Note on scope: Content creation and posting are handled by a separate team member. Your focus is recruitment, outreach, and keeping the community active and well-moderated — not producing the posts themselves.
What You'll Do
Launch and grow the group
- Set up the group from scratch: name, branding, rules, pinned content, and onboarding flow.
- Develop and execute a member-acquisition strategy built on direct outreach — DMs, targeted invitations, partner cross-promotion, and conversion of followers from other channels.
- Hit agreed growth milestones for membership and active participation.
Run outreach campaigns
- Identify and build lists of ideal members across relevant pages, groups, and communities.
- Personally reach out to prospects with messaging that earns trust rather than feeling like spam.
- Test and refine outreach angles, hooks, and follow-up sequences; track what converts.
- Build relationships with adjacent communities, creators, and partners for cross-promotion.
Manage the community
- Welcome new members, moderate conversations, and enforce group rules.
- Keep engagement high by responding quickly, seeding and stoking discussions, and surfacing member contributions.
- Work closely with the content creator to flag what topics are landing and what the community wants more of.
- Reduce churn by making members feel seen and the group feel worth checking daily.
Measure and report
- Track member growth, request-to-join conversion, post engagement, and retention.
- Report regularly on what's working, what isn't, and what you're changing next.
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience growing a social media community or audience, ideally a Facebook group, from a small or zero base.
- Genuine comfort with outreach — you're not shy about DMing strangers and you know how to do it without being pushy.
- Strong written communication and a feel for tone; you can sound like a real person, not a brand bot.
- Self-directed and organized: you can run outreach lists and sequences without being micromanaged.
- Data-literate: you make decisions based on engagement and conversion numbers, not just gut feel.
- Familiarity with Facebook's group tools, moderation features, and platform policies (including what gets accounts flagged for outreach).
Nice to Have
- Experience with cold outreach or list-building tools.
- Background in a specific niche or community relevant to our audience.
- Experience collaborating with content or creative teammates rather than producing everything solo.
- Experience growing communities on other platforms (WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, LinkedIn).
How Success Is Measured
In the first 90 days you'll be expected to launch the group, establish a repeatable outreach process, and show steady, organic-feeling growth in both membership and daily active participation. Vanity metrics matter less than a genuinely engaged community that keeps growing.
